Meet Editor Steve Kay

Steve Kay has been Editor and Publisher of Cattle Buyers Weekly since its inception in 1987. In this capacity, he is recognized as an authoritative and impartial observer of the North American meat and livestock industry. He is widely quoted in national and regional daily newspapers and weekly news magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Business Week.

Kay regularly addresses industry groups in the U.S., Canada and other countries on the state of the North American meat and livestock industry. He provides keynote and other presentations to livestock producers, meat packers and importers. He also provides specialized private briefings to companies and organizations involved in the industry.

Kay writes a biweekly column for a leading national weekly livestock publication, the Western Livestock Journal. He is also Contributing Editor to MEAT&POULTRY magazine and writes regularly for BEEF TODAY magazine. Kay is also the author of the U.S. Livestock Industry Review, a monthly report on the U.S. beef and pork industries.

Kay also has a radio program each week on a leading Midwest agricultural farm radio network, KRVN, based in Lexington, Neb.

Kay has specialized in writing about the livestock and meat industries worldwide for 30 years. He grew up on a dairy, beef, sheep and hog farm on the South Island of New Zealand. After graduating from university with a Master's degree in history and a postgraduate degree in journalism, he worked for daily newspapers in New Zealand.

For seven years he worked for Europe's top agricultural publication, Farmers Weekly, based in London. During that time, he traveled the world, writing about food production and agricultural politics. Kay started publishing Cattle Buyers Weekly in December 1987.
